Getting Heart Healthy in February

The lack of healthy hearts is a growing epidemic in our country. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) one person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. About 659,000 people in the US die from heart disease each year – that’s one in every four deaths.

Almost half of Americans are at risk for heart disease due to risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, obesity, high cholesterol, and lack of physical activity.

Because of these issues, February is designated and nationally recognized as Heart Health Month.

But it’s not all gloom and doom! The good news is there are several ways to improve your heart health and Clear Lake Physical Therapy and Rehab Specialists (CLPTRS) is here to help.

Exercise is a big part of CLPTRS’s mission, vision, and methods. And exercise is a huge factor in becoming heart healthy. Physical activity can lower blood pressure, reduce weight, relieve stress, and improve heart function.

We do offer a very affordable wellness program for any of our past patients we’ve had at our Amery, Clear Lake, or Turtle Lake locations. Our wellness program is when a past or current patient can purchase a 25-session punch card for just $50. Or a monthly membership costs just $30. This is an independent program. Meaning as a past or current patient, you may come in anytime during our regular business hours to use our machines and equipment for exercise purposes. There will be no physical therapist or trainer working with you.

Perhaps you are not currently physically active and would like to increase the amount of time you exercise. But what if an injury is holding you back? It can be a little discouraging to begin walking or running with a sore foot or knee. Or an achy shoulder can make strength training intimidating.

If you suffer from chronic aches or pains, physical therapy can get you on the road to recovery so you can become more physically active. Our therapists can work with you to make sure your injury is healed over time. They can also can teach you how to prevent injury during exercise.

Don’t let any kind of injury or pain delay you from improving your heart health through exercise. To see how we can help you begin your wellness journey, please call us to schedule an appointment at one of our following offices: Turtle Lake 715-986-4103, Clear Lake 715-263-4103, and Amery 715-268-5103.

It’s never too late to start your journey to improved heart health, no matter your age, size, or level of physical activity. If you would like more information about our wellness program and the use of our machines and equipment available to our patients, please contact any of our three offices.
